The new guest of "Tuna Ofis Conversations", produced together by Tuna Ofis and Arkitera and moderated by Banu Uçak, was Aydan Volkan, founding partner of Kreatif Mimarlık. The conversation, held at the Tuna Ofis headquarters in Taksim, was about the professional path of Aydan Volkan.
"How did you decide to become an architect?
My uncle was an architect, but he was someone who never practised architecture. He had a good library and architecture magazines, and Arkitekt was the most popular magazine of those days. At five or six, when I could not yet read or write, I would spread them on the rugs, look at them, imagine the buildings there, and walk around inside them. Then, through the whole of my education, my mind never changed.
When the years of university preference came, I had six choices, and all six were architecture. Three of them were in Istanbul, two in Ankara, and one in İzmir. My late father would ask, "What will you do if none of these works out?" I would say that I would try again, and that is what happened. I tried again. I did not get in the first year. In the second year I got into Yıldız University, or, as it is called now, Yıldız Technical University."
